Wednesday 20th January

Good morning

I hope you are all well and enjoyed joining us to read  ‘Don't eat the teacher.’ I'm glad Sammy the shark isn't in Eagle class!

Phonics

Today’s Set 2 sound is “oy - toy for a boy”.   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

TOP TIP:  At school we are pausing the video as Rosie asks us the write the word. That way we know if the children can write the work independently, or whether they are simply copying Rosie. They need to write it on their own

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

Remember to look at this video every day to practise your Speedy green words.

Here is a copy of the pages at read at your own pace.

Don't forget to get your grown-up to ask you today's questions.

English/Talk4Writing

Please start today's lesson by performing your Three Little Pigs Story. At school we would perform the story every day.

Today we are going to remind ourselves of the story again by using some picture cards to sequence it.
Can you cut out the picture cards yourself and then put them into the correct sequence on the story map.
Now can you glue them into place. Can you add some labels to the map eg pig, wolf, straw, sticks, bricks. Remember, we are encouraging the children to write independently. Ask the children to Fred talk the word and then write down the sounds they can hear. I do not expect them to spell everything correctly but would like to see any phonic sounds they have covered. Remember to use your phonics mats to find any sounds you are unsure about.

Maths

Today we are introducing number 12. Please watch Series 3: Twelve

In Today's episode we meet number 12 who is a Super rectangle.

Things to talk about:
Did your child spot that 11 is made from 10 and 1, 12 is 10 and 2
Can they tell you how to make 13,14,15?

Todays challenge is to draw all the Numberblock characters who are Super rectangles eg 12, 6 etc

Hint: these are the even numbers. The children know a counting song about odds and evens. There is a performance of this on their Tapestry accounts from before Christmas.

Afternoon activities

At 1.30 we are meeting on a Zoom call. The link to join the meeting has been sent out on Marvellous Me and Parent mail.  The children at school and the teaching assistants will be joining us on the call as well.  This first call will be a social meeting to give the children chance to see each other  and chat with us about what they have been doing, how they are feeling and what Santa brought them etc

It will give them chance to get used to talking to each other online, taking turns to talk and for us all to get used to using the technology. Ideally we are aiming for the children to be able to mute and un-mute themselves initially, leading to them being able to put their hand up on-line.

Hopefully this will be a success and we can then meet more regularly, eventually leading to live on-line  story-time and teaching.

Music

Today I have added a link for an on-line music lesson for the Three Little Pigs. This is an activity where your child can add sound effects to the story. There is  a demonstration video for the activity, a video to learn the tune to the song,  and even the option to print out pig stick puppets.  Your child will need three different instruments with different sounds to represent the houses being blown down.  Don't worry if you don't have any instruments, you could use a kitchen instruments eg a pan and wooden spoon, a tin or bottle filled with something like rice and two tubes/sticks to bang together.  You could even add your sound effects to me reading the story from the Blog (Tuesday 12th January) I hope you have fun!

We are looking forward to seeing you all soon!
