Thursday 21st January

Hello Everyone

It was so lovely to see some of you yesterday on our Zoom chat.

Here’s Toffee and Fudge getting ready for the Zoom meeting.

We are looking forward to talking to you again next week.  Here is today’s learning.

Phonics

Today we start Set 2 again and go through the set 2 sounds for a second time - we would repeat these if we were in school.

Today’s Set 2 sound is “ay - may I play?”   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

TOP TIP:  At school we are pausing the video as Rosie asks us the write the word. That way we know if the children can write the work independently, or whether they are simply copying Rosie. They need to write it on their own

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

English/Talk4Writing

I hope you enjoyed writing a speech bubble for the big bad wolf.

Here is a recording of how I delivered the lesson at school to demonstrate how we get the children to write a sentence.

Here are some examples of writing from school.

Today we are going to have a go at writing another speech bubble. This time we are going to be one of the little pigs. Can you think of something one of the pigs might say?  It could be “not by the hair on my chinny, chin, chin, I will not let you in”.
Remember I don’t want the children to just copy your writing. I would like them to Fred talk each word and then use the phonics we have covered to write it words.
It might look something like this: “not bigh th hairs on migh chini, chin, chin, igh wil not let yoo in”

Remember to use your sound mat and don’t forget those finger spaces.

Maths

Today we are continuing looking at number 12. Please watch Series 3: Twelve

When we watched this episode at school yesterday the children were interested in how number 12 was an array. We watched the video again and paused it every time 12 split into a new array. We then described how many rows (across) and how many columns (down). When you watch the episode today can you pause and describe the array to your grown-up. If you would like a challenge you could draw all the different arrays for number 12.

Afternoon tasks

This afternoon I would like the children to work on their fine motor skills by completing this Three little pigs cutting and sticking activity.

We have noticed that some of the children are finding scissor control tricky. Some children are twisting  their hand so the thumb points down, some are not pointing the scissors forwards at all times and are having to twist their wrist, some are not cutting on the line or are not  aware that they should turn the paper so that they are always cutting forwards. This is an area we were working on prior to lockdown. As well as the activity I have also included 5 handy trick sheets to help you advice your child if needed. Remember like pencil control, scissor control takes practice.

Can you cut out the clothes to dress the Three little pigs?
Here is a link to print the pages.

Here are some handy hints to help your child use scissors with accuracy.

Story time

Today’s story is another one of our favourites. We read all of David McKee’s Elmer books before Christmas when we looked at pattern, shape and colour. Here is the link for the author reading Elmer.

I hope you have enjoyed today’s activities. I look forward to seeing them on Tapestry tonight.
