Monday 1st February

Hello Eagle class, I hope you’ve had a restful weekend and have been really good for your grown-ups. Here’s Toffee and Fudge hiding from me after I told them to share their toys. Click on the video to see what they were up to!

Phonics

Today’s Set 2 sound is “or - shut the door”.   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

TOP TIP:  At school we are pausing the video as Rosie asks us the write the word. That way we know if the children can write the work independently, or whether they are simply copying Rosie. They need to write it on their own

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

Remember to look at this video every day to practise your speedy green words.

Don’t forget to ask your Grown-up to ask you today’s question.

Talk4Writing - Time to innovate

We have all made a great start to our Talk4Writing story and many of you have internalised the text .

This week we are going to begin to innovate the story.

When we innovate the story we keep the same structure as the original story but change parts of it.

This is how we innovated the story of The Little red hen.

  • We changed the time of day from “early one morning” to “one summers day”
  • We changed the little red hen to the little white goose
  • We changed the animals from from the rat, cat and bull to a peacock, fox and pig
  • We changed the bread to cake

Today I would like you to begin to innovate your story of the three little pigs. These are some parts you could change.
  • The time of day
  • The 3 animals - change the pigs to another animal family
  • The baddy - change the Wolf to a different frightening animal
  • The material the houses were made of?
  • How did you stop the baddy from getting into the third house?
  • How did you stop him/her from eating you at the end?
  • How did the story end, was it a happy or sad ending?

I would like you to share your ideas with your grown-up, then ask them to write your ideas down for you and share them with us on Tapestry tonight. We will then put all our ideas together to write our new text.

Maths

Our new maths topic for this week is shape. We will re-cap 2D shape before moving onto 3D shapes.

2D shape

As a re-cap I would like you to begin by watching the Numberblocks series 3 episode:Flat land

Once the episode has finished can you all the shapes that Number 4 and Squarey met in Flatland.

Can your Grown-up help you write their names.
  • How many sides are there on each shape?
  • How many corners are there on each shape?

Afternoon tasks.

Today we are going to use our Funky fingers by going to the ‘Finger gym’

You will need:
  • A lump of play dough or plasticine
  • Some dry/raw spaghetti, pasta tubes or beads
  • A small bowl of dry cheerio’s type breakfast cereal
Roll the dough into a ball and press it onto the table and carefully stand in a piece of spaghetti. Can you thread objects onto the spaghetti without it breaking. Are you using your pincer grip?

Don’t hold the spaghetti.

Put some spaghetti coming out at different angles and change the length of your spaghetti.

Story time.

George has very kindly shared this alternative version of the story. Have a listen to The true story of the 3 little pigs by A.Wolf

Why don't you have a go at storytelling as a family?

In school we sometimes sit in a circle and ask each child to add a part/sentence to help to create a made up story. The adults role is to help to move the story on and give the story structure. The more you do it the better your child will get at structuring, and telling stories.

Why not ask your child to tell you or their brother/sister their favourite story?

Perhaps mum or dad could make up a story for bedtime?

Here is a link to some strategies to get children to tell stories.

Special Mentions Assembly - Friday 29th January

Congratulations to Oliver and Oscar.

Guilty or not guilty?

We have received some more fantastic posters.

Georgia gave some amazing answers when talking about the Wolf in the forest. She said the Wolf was wearing the suit because he was in disguise.
Alice said “even though the pigs were not guilty and could go free, the Wolf was telling the truth”
Alice thought the Wolf in the Forest was wearing a suit because he was called. He used his senses to follow the person in tree. He smelt with his nose, looked with his eyes and could hear him moving with his big ears.

Friday 29th January

Hi I hope you all enjoyed learning about recycling yesterday. Can you help your Grown-ups sort the recycling next week?

Here is a challenge from Alice: which other numbers could you make using different step-squads?

Here is today’s Number 15 challenge sheet.

Afternoon activities

As part of our topic Location, Location we will contrast our locality with different places in the World.
Today we will begin by taking a journey to Antarctica, near the North Pole.
This is a beautiful animation of one of my favourite books Oliver Jeffers, Lost and Found. While you watch it think about how the penguins habitat contrasts with ours.

If this animation has really inspired you then have a look at this penguin art step by step video which will teach you how to draw a penguin.

I would love to see your Penguin. Add it to Tapestry so we can have an Art Gallery on our class Blog.
