Monday 31st January 2022

Good morning Alps class
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are all well and with us in school 😊
For those of you at home, here is today’s home learning.

Maths

This week we begin our new unit Growing 6,7,8.

Please watch the Numberblock episodes Series 2 on BBC iPlayer for numbers 6,7 and 8 throughout this week. Today our focus is on Number 6.

Oh no!

Mr Cooper has been very worried this weekend while he has been working in school on his own. He told me that there have been some unusual things happening and he feels that he is being watched. Here are some clues he found over in the Forest school area.

He also heard some strange noises at night

  • What do you think has made those marks on the trees?
  • What are those strange grey and brown furry looking lumps on the ground? What are those white flakes sticking out of the lumps?
  • What type of animal has made those tracks in the mud?
  • What is the noise Mr Cooper heard?
Using all the clues you tell your grown up who or what is watching Mr Cooper?
Can you describe what it looks like?
Where do you think it is living?

Afternoon tasks

This afternoon we will be continuing to explore powder paint and colour mixing.
Starting with yellow paint a rectangle, can you gradually add a tiny bit of red and paint another?
Keep adding a bit of red and painting a rectangle each time until you finally end up with red paint.
What did you notice about the shades as you added more red?
What colour did you make when you added yellow and red?

Don’t forget to add your wonderful learning to Tapestry.

Talk4Writing - The Three Little Pigs

Oh no!!!!!

What has happened to the three little pigs?

The police have arrested the 3 little pigs.
The Judge is deciding if the three pigs should go to jail.
The big bad Wolf told the police that they burnt his bottom and made is as red as a radish.
The police went to the three little pigs house to look for evidence.

What do you think?
  • Did the little pigs do anything wrong?
  • Is the Wolf telling the truth?
  • Should the pigs go to jail?
  • Should the Wolf go free?
Are the pigs guilty or not guilty?

Can you design a poster to show me what you think?
Are you making a ‘Free the pigs’ poster or ‘Guilty, take them to jail’

Afternoon task

Today we are going back to the DOUGH DISCO!!!!!

You will need a small ball of play dough or soft plasticine. If you do not have any dough you could try a small soft ball you could squeeze, or even a scrunched up piece of paper.

If you would like to make your own dough here is a simple no cook recipe. You can make if more exciting by adding food colouring or something to change the smell, colour or texture eg cocoa powder makes it smell like chocolate. At school we have added berries, glitter, and even Chinese spice.

Here are two new dough disco songs to learn.

Other Dough disco songs we use are:

1st and 2nd pig.              3rd pig.                   The big bad Wolf

Talk4Writing

Today as a class we innovated the story the story of the three little pigs.

As a class we decided which new animal we would use for our story. What were they like? Big, little, loud, fast or slow.

Next we decided what the baddy would be? It can’t be a Wolf!

Then what did they make their houses from?

Finally can you draw your story map for your new story?

Here’s ours from today.

Friday 21st January 2022

Good morning Alps class. Friday again, this week has gone quickly!

Here is the final day of home learning for this week.

English/Talk4Writing

I hope you enjoyed writing a speech bubble for the big bad wolf.

Here is a recording of how I delivered the lesson at school to demonstrate how we get the children to write a sentence.

Here are some examples of writing from school.

Today we are going to have a go at writing another speech bubble. This time we are going to be one of the little pigs. Can you think of something one of the pigs might say?  It could be “not by the hair on my chinny, chin, chin, I will not let you in”.
Remember I don’t want the children to just copy your writing. I would like them to Fred talk each word and then use the phonics we have covered to write it words.
It might look something like this: “not bigh th hairs on migh chini, chin, chin, igh wil not let yoo in”

Remember to use your sound mat and don’t forget those finger spaces.

Thursday 20th January 2022

English/Talk4Writing

Well done everyone. I have seen some wonderful story paths this week.

Please start today's lesson by performing your Three Little Pigs Story

Today we are going to write a speech bubble for the Big, bad Wolf.  What did the big, bad Wolf say in the story?

He said “I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow the house in”

Please could you write this phrase in the speech bubble. I do not want your child to copy your sentence. I want them to sound the words out for themselves using ‘Fred talk”

Start by saying the sentence over and over until they can hold the sentence in their head.

I would expect the spelling to include only the sounds we have covered in phonics so far. Eg it might look like this “ighl huf and ighl puf and ighl blow th hous in.  We have covered the sound ou today.  Some children in Mrs Bramley’s group have covered the red word I, and the double ff sound so may remember this and apply it to their writing.  Please encourage correct letter formation and make sure they use finger spaces between each word. Please don’t worry if you child can only hear the starting sound of each word at this stage. We would be delighted if they could hear this independently at school.

At school we would have a sound mat on our tables to help remind us of the sounds and prompt the rhyme to form the letters.

Afternoon tasks

This afternoon I would like the children to work on their fine motor skills by completing this Three little pigs cutting and sticking activity.

We have noticed that some of the children are finding scissor control tricky. Some children are twisting  their hand so the thumb points down, some are not pointing the scissors forwards at all times and are having to twist their wrist, some are not cutting on the line or are not  aware that they should turn the paper so that they are always cutting forwards. This is an area we were working on prior to lockdown. As well as the activity I have also included 5 handy trick sheets to help you advice your child if needed. Remember like pencil control, scissor control takes practice.

Can you cut out the clothes to dress the Three little pigs?
Here is a link to print the pages.

Here are some handy hints to help your child use scissors with accuracy.

Story time

Today’s story is another one of our favourites. We read all of David McKee’s Elmer books before Christmas when we looked at pattern, shape and colour. Here is the link for the author reading Elmer.

I hope you have enjoyed today’s activities. I look forward to seeing them on Tapestry tonight
