Talk4Writing

Today in Talk4Writing we are going to make a story path for either how to trap a Wolf, a rattle snake or your own version.  First talk to your grown-up and decide which story you would like to draw.

Next ask your grown-up to write a large reverse s on a piece of paper this will be your path/map.

After that begin to draw your story.

Remember you will need to follow the format of the original story.

Start with the symbols for “are you kept awake at night by the sound of……”

Then choose your animal

You will need: Next pick four items you will use to trap your animal

What you do next: remember to start your sentences with first, next, after than, finally

A final note of warning: where night your animal be hiding, be careful as he might trap you!

Collect them together and then I would like you to write a label for each one. Use your “Fred Fingers” and pinch each sound before you write the word.

This afternoon we are going to bring the Three little pigs story alive by going into our outdoor area. We are going to talk about our designs, draw the plans and then make the three little pigs houses using our outdoor construction equipment. Then we are going to act out the story!

Could you make a story basket/box for the three little pigs and tell the story to your grown-up.

What can you see? 

Where are the Wolf pups ?

What are they doing?

Why are they howling?

Where is the rest of their pack?

Can you write some sentences about the Wolf  pups. Remember your fingers spaces and think carefully about how your letters sit on the lines.  Make sure you are using your “Fred fingers” to count the sounds when you are sounding out.

Talk4Writing - How to trap a Wolf 

Did you agree with the children at school? They thought Mr Cooper had heard a Wolf! 

They decided a Wolf had scratched the tree, left footprints in the mud and worst of all left smelly piles of Wolf poo everywhere, but don’t worry we have a plan.

This is our new Talk4Writing text - How to trap a Wolf. This is our first look at an instruction text.

It is very important that when internalising this text we use the exact words written in the text, as the format and vocabulary within it has been carefully chosen to introduce the children to the format and key words used when writing instructions.

Before you show your child the text listen to this audio of the text.

Next have a look at the text and read it through again encouraging your child to join in much as possible each time you read it. Keep practising this each day for the rest of week until the text has been internalised. Important words to learn are First , next, after that, Finally, what you need, what you do, as these will be used when writing other instructions.

Afternoon activity

This afternoon we will be enjoying a pen disco session. All you will need is a piece of paper folded into four, some coloured pencils or felt tips and some of your favourite music.

Today we are practising numbers 8,9,10. Select your favourite song and enjoy writing number 8 lots of times, in as many different colours as possible. Once you have filled your square choose a new song and start number 9, then 10.  Can you put a picture of your work on Tapestry please.

Oh no!

Mr Cooper has been very worried this weekend while he has been working in school on his own. He told me that there have been some unusual things happening and he feels that he is being watched. Here are some clues he found over in the Forest school area. 

He also heard some strange noises at night

• What type of animal has made those tracks in the mud?
• What is the noise Mr Cooper heard?

Afternoon tasks

This afternoon we will be continuing to explore powder paint and colour mixing.

Starting with yellow paint a rectangle, can you gradually add a tiny bit of red and paint another?

Keep adding a bit of red and painting a rectangle each time until you finally end up with red paint.

What did you notice about the shades as you added more red?

What colour did you make when you added yellow and red?
