Good morning Alp class

I hope you are all well and in school with us, but if you are isolating here is today's learning.

Phonics

Mrs Bramley's group

First I would like you to spend 5 minutes re-capping all the set one sounds you have covered. These are in your green 'My Set 1 Speed Sounds Book.'

Next I would like you to begin to make your own alphabet sound poster.  Today I would like you to look at  Special friend - sh.

Write the sound sh in the middle of a piece of paper and then draw at least five things that start with sh.

Next write the word for each picture underneath. I would like you to use your Fred fingers and sound these words out yourself, rather than copying the word from an adult.

Mrs Smith's group

First I would like you to spend 5 minutes re-capping all the set one sounds we have covered. These are in your green 'My Set 1 Speed Sounds Book.'

Next I would like you to practise “Fred talking” the following words. Cat, dog, hat, fish, mat, mad. This means you hold up 3 “Fred fingers” and pitch each sound in the word as you say it.

Today we are recapping the sound x.

Good morning we hope you are all as well as you can be. Here is todays home learning.

Talk4Writing

How did you get on learning the text from yesterday? Did you enjoy listening to the story?

Today we are introducing our story map. We use this to remind us about the sequence of the story. When we tell the story at school we use the map to prompt us and remind us what comes next in the story.

Today I would like you to use the story map to tell your grown-up the story.  Remember to begin the story with Once upon a time.....

Maths

Today we are looking at the Numberblocks episode The three little pigs. This can be found on BBC iPlayer. Watch the episode and then can you draw the houses from the story. Look carefully at the shapes of the windows as they match the Numberblock that lives inside eg number 2 has semi-circle windows as they have 2 sides, number 4 has square windows as they have 4 sides.

PE - dance

This half term in PE we will be looking at Dance.  Have a look at this Big Blue Whale dance it’s great fun!

The Three little pigs

Today we are going to begin to learn our new Talk4Writing text The Three little pigs.

Please ask you grown-up to read this story to you and see if you can begin to learn the first part of the story.

Maths

In maths today we are re-capping our numbers to 5.

Please start by watching the following episode on BBC iPlayer.

Numberblocks - series one The Whole of me.

Once you have watched the episode I would like you to find all the ways you can add up to 5.

You could draw this using the Numberblock characters eg 1+4, 3+2 

Understanding the world

Today we are going to go on a winter walk. Get wrapped up and go outside to look for signs of winter. 

Can you make a list of the changes you can see since our Autumn walk.

Thursday 14th October

Today in phonics we looked at the sound l. Can you find lots of objects in your house that start with the l sound. Take a photograph and add it to Tapestry. Can you cover a piece of paper in lots of colourful l. Remember to use the phrase “down the long leg”

In maths today we are going on a teddy bears picnic. Can you find three bears and order them in size, now can you find different objects in three sizes and sort them for each bear eg a big, middle size and small plate and beaker.  Take a photograph and add it to Tapestry.

In Talk4Writing we are using our story basket to tell the story of the Little red hen. In our basket we have a rope for our story path, and the characters for the story, hen, bull, rat and cat. We have pictures for the parts of the story eg corn, bread.  Can you make your own story basket? It doesn’t have to be the same characters or scenario. In class on Monday we innovated the story to tell the story of the Fat, pink pig, whose friends were a sheep, a snake and a horse!

In the afternoon we are going to continue our work on Autumn. We are going to collect more Autumn leaves and make our very own leaf man.  Can you make a leaf man and add a picture to Tapestry?

 

Wednesday 13th October

Today in phonics we recapped and practised writing all of the sounds we have covered this year so far. Please use your green sound book to go through your sounds and practise writing each sound using the letter phrase in the book.

In maths we continued our work on size started on Monday when we received a mystery box.

Today we looked at the following book: we are looking at measurement and learning the vocabulary for large/small, big/little, short/tall, tallest/shortest.

Welcome to Read, write inc phonics

Alps class have made an excellent start to their Read, write inc journey this week. We have looked at our first 5 sounds (m,a,s,d,t)  and are already starting to blend and segment during our Fred talk time.

We have also starting looking at writing sounds using the Read, write inc phrases to prompt formation. 

Each night we will send home a green sound book. We would like you to spend 5/10 minutes each evening going over the days sounds, and then encourage your child to write the sound of the day independently. We work on this each morning at school, encouraging the children to say the formation phrase as they write. It is essential we use the same methods, especially with pencil grip, as a requirement of the new Early years curriculum is to hold a pencil using a tripod grip. I have added a handy guide to show you the method we teach at school to encourage this from day one.

Handwriting focus - how to hold a pencil correctly and sit at a table ready to write.

Here is how to help

1.  Lay the pencil down on the table with the point facing towards you.
   

   
   

   

   
   
2. Fly your Polly parrot fingers down to the pencil and grip it with your thumb and first finger (do not twist your hand)
   

   

   
   
3.  While gripping the pencil with your thumb and first finger pull the pencil towards you until it touches your hand between the finger and thumb - we call this "putting your pencil to bed"
   
   

   

   
   
4. Slide your middle finger under the pencil to support it.

 Tuck your finger two fingers under until they touch the palm of your hand.

How to sit correctly at a table when writing. Learning our school terminology.

We use -

• TNT - Tummy near table 
• BBC - bottom, back, chair
• 6 legs on the floor - this is your four chair legs, and your two flat feet on the floor
  
  
  
  
  

As we start to learn to write at school we used line guide paper.  All the lines have different names.

They are called: 

• Top broken line
• Top solid line
• Bottom solid line
• Bottom broken line

These letters are small letters and they fit exactly between the two solid lines.

These letters are tall letters and they start from the top broken line and sit on the bottom solid line.

These letters are hanging down letters. They start at the top solid line, or sit between the two solid lines and go down to the bottom broken line.

This letter is the tallest letter. It starts at the top broken line and goes all the way down to the bottom broken line.

There is one letter which the odd one out. A t is a teenager t. It starts half way between the top broken line and the top solid line. It sits on the bottom solid line.

Useful prompts could be:

Are you holding you pencil with “Polly parrot fingers” 

Make sure your feet are flat on the floor. 

Is your bottom at the back of your chair and your tummy to the table?

Each letter has a Read, write inc rhyme we say as we form the letter.
