Thursday 7th January

Hello. It really enjoyed looking at your Winter pictures yesterday.

Phonics/English

Today we are going to look at Special friends th. Today I would  like you to have a go at this phonics dice game. You will need a dice and something you could use as counters. Roll the dice and then “Fred talk” the word. If you read it correctly then cover the word with a counter. The winner is person who reads the most words.

Here is the link if you want to print out a physical copy of the game.

Maths

Today we are continuing to look at comparing numbers to 10. I would like you to start by watching the Numberblocks episode Peekaboo Series 3 episode 9. Watch it twice stopping and discussing the number questions.

Here is the link to the episode on BBC iPlayer.

Once you have watched the episode I would like you to use your number cards again. Pick two cards and draw the two number blocks to match the number cards.  Can you say the number sentence to match.  Ask your grown up to write the sentence eg “6 is greater than 4.....4 is less than 6”
Can you choose two more cards and draw the Numberblocks?

Afternoon

This afternoon please could you look at the technology part of the this terms Homework grid and add it to Tapestry.

Can you take a selfie and add it to Tapestry?

Can you use the camera to take a mystery photograph?
Add it to Tapestry for us to guess what it is?
Can you guess what this is? It’s in our classroom?

Music

Nursery Rhyme time

Can you use the CBeebies website to learn a new nursery rhyme?  Here’s the link to the page.

Don’t forget to add your fantastic learning to Tapestry!

Read, Write Inc daily live lesson on YouTube

The Read, Write inc YouTube channel have released daily on-line phonics lessons. A new sound is added to the channel every morning at 9.30 and is available to watch for twenty-four hours before it is removed.

I would like everyone to start a new set of sounds. Please look at the Set 2 speed sounds.

Here is the link to the page

I would also have a look on the Oxford Owl website. This has letter formation sheets to match the daily sounds and other resources such as eBooks.

Here is the link to the page.

Blockzilla the second!

Today I received some more amazing Blockzilla creations

I love how Alice has made her Blockzilla from a cardboard tube.

This Blockzilla has a smile almost as big as Georgia’s.

Meet the Eagle Class Blockzilla’s

Eliza and Oscar have been working hard at home to create their own Blockzilla!

This is Eliza’s Blockzilla

Meet this Lego Blockzilla by Oscar

Wednesday 6th January

Good morning. It was great to see such lovely activities being posted on Tapestry yesterday. I hope you enjoyed making Blockzilla!

Phonics/English

First I would like you to spend 5 minutes re-capping all the set one sounds we have covered again. These are in your green 'My Set 1 Speed Sounds Book.' How fast can you say the sounds. Use a timer and see how fast you can say them?

Today I would like you to go on a sound hunt around your house.  I would like you to find objects that start with Special friends ch.  I would like you to gather the objects together and write labels for them.
Now can you take a photograph and add it to Tapestry.

Maths

Please watch the Blockzilla episode from yesterday again.

You will need some number cards 0-10, you could write these on pieces of paper. Some objects you could count (blocks, teddies, toys, pencils)

Using the Blockzilla you made yesterday, pick two number cards.  Can you put the largest number in Blockzilla’s open mouth? Put the smallest number at the closed side of his mouth. Can you read the number sentence?  Eg.  Can you say “10 is greater than 6.......6 is less than 10”

Practise this with lots of different combinations of numbers. If you find it tricky you can count out the correct number of objects and compare the objects side by side.

Afternoon tasks

I would like you to get wrapped up and go out on a winter walk. Can you see any signs of winter in your garden? You can use this check list if you would like or you could make your own check list.

Art

Can you create a winter scene?

You could paint, draw, make a model. Here are some ideas.

I can’t wait to see your creations. Don’t forget to add them to your Tapestry account and I will share some of my favourites on here with your friends.

Tuesday 5th January

Happy New Year!

These are the activities I would like you to look at today please.

Phonics/English

First I would like you to spend 5 minutes re-capping all the set one sounds we have covered. These are in your green 'My Set 1 Speed Sounds Book.'

Next I would like you to begin to make your own alphabet sound poster.  Today I would like you to look at  Special friend - sh.

Write the sound sh in the middle of a piece of paper and then draw at least five things that start with sh.
Next write the word for each picture underneath. I would like you to use your Fred fingers and sound these words out yourself, rather than copying the word from an adult.

If you would like to read a book today you can access free eBooks including Read, write inc books on the Oxford Owl website.

Here is the  link.  Have a look at the books for 3-4 and 4-5 year olds. If you are using the Read, write inc books please stick to the colour of book your child brought home over Christmas.

Maths

This week we are looking at comparing numbers to 10, using language such as bigger than, smaller than, greater than, less than, more than.

To introduce this I would like you to watch the Numberblocks episode Blockzilla. This can be found on BBC iplayer - Numberblocks -series 3, episode 2.  Here is the link to the episode on iplayer. Once the episode has finished playing it through once more pausing and discussing the number puzzles Blockzilla sets as he gobbles the numbers. Talk about which number they think is greater than or less than the other number.

Today I would like you to make your very own Blockzilla ready to to gobble some numbers tomorrow!

Here’s an idea of how to make him. Yours doesn’t have to look the same as this, you could draw him, paint him, make him from boxes, make him from construction equipment like lego. I would love to see what you make!

Yoga

If you have got time left today then you might like to do some Yoga. I know you all loved the yoga we did in PE before Christmas.

Have a look on the Cosmic Kids page on YouTube, there are lots of great videos to join in with.
It’s fantastic!

Finally, I would love to see what you have been doing. Please add pictures of your creations, or even a video of your Yoga fun to your Tapestry account.

Read, write inc phonics

This week we have started our journey with Read, write inc phonics by learning the picture cards, secret signals such as “my turn, your turn,” “magnet eyes”  and played games to learn how to “Fred talk”

Tomorrow your child will bring home a small green book called My Set 1 Speed Sounds Book.

This needs to be returned to school every day please.

Each night please spend 10 minutes going over the Sound of the day and practising the handwriting and it’s associated phrase  eg to write m we say Maisie, mountain, mountain.

Oxford owl has a fantastic website where you can access videos that show you how to correctly pronounce  each letter sound, and explains how Read, Write inc works so that you can support your child at home using the same methods we use at school.

Here is the link to the website.

Please do not go any further in the sound book than the sound we date each day.

We hope you enjoy Read.write inc as much as we do.
