Thursday 4th March

Good morning, can you believe it’s only 4 sleeps to go.

Today is World book day. Throughout today we will be sharing lots of lovely ideas around books including a Live World Book Day event called Words and Pictures: Bringing books to life at 10.30 this morning.

Phonics

ir - whirl and twirl
  • Say the sound and learn the rhyme.
  • Practise reading the words using “Fred talk”
  • Can you read any of the words using “Fred in your head”
  • Ask your grown-up to read the words for you to write independently.
  • Now pick three words and write a sentence for each word.
  • Remember to use a finger space after each word

World book day - Live event

Maths - Number 20 - The two tens tango

In this episode we meet Number 20 for the first time. As well as teaching us to count to twenty. It also teaches us how 20 is made of 2 tens and no more, and how the number 20 shows us this.

It shows how 20 can be split into 2 lots of 10.
It can also be split into 10 lots of 2.

Today I would like to watch the episode then work on the following activities:
  • Count forwards to 20
  • Count backwards from 20 (many children find this tricky)
  • Count out 20 objects consistently, both in straight lines and random arrangements.
  • Can you order the numbers from 0-20 independently using number cards ?
  • Can you write the numbers 0-20 in order?
  • Count to 20 in 2’s (use the We are the even numbers song)
  • Can you divide 20 into equal groups eg 2 lots of 10 etc
  • How many different ways can you find?

 Afternoon activities

This afternoon we are going to have an Elmer afternoon.

I would like you to dress up in your brightest coloured or patterned clothes and join the Elmer Parade. There will be a prize from the special person box for the person with the most patterns and colours, and Lego cards for everyone that joins in with the fun. You could even add accessories in your hair, paint your face, or make yourself an Elmer headress to wear for the afternoon. Please add your photographs to Tapestry.

Here are some ideas of activities you might like to try this afternoon.

Would you like to make a milk carton Elmer?
Here are the instructions.
Can you make some elephant shaped food?
 Here’s an elephant sandwich
Elephant biscuits
Elmer finger painting
A 3D Elmer
How about a colourful science experiment.

We hope you have fun. Don’t forget to post your pictures on Tapestry and I will add an Elmer day page to the Blog.
