Thursday 11th February

Good morning, I hope you are feeling good after a day enjoying activities with your family on Wellbeing Wednesday

Phonics

Today we are going to re-cap some of the “Special friends” and trickier sounds we covered in Set 1. Today is ch.  It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

Now I would like you to watch the Set 1 word time video with Gareth.   Finally I would like you to join Sara on the spelling video. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  This time the words are simple and you should be able to write them quickly before Sara writes it for you.

Sequencing the days of the week. It is an essential life skill to know the order of the days of the week and understand the concepts of yesterday, today, tomorrow, week day, weekend.

Here’s a song to get you up and moving and help you learn the order of the days of the week. I apologise if this sticks in your head but the children seem to enjoy it each year when we sing it 🤣

Can you make this Days of the week sequence spinner. Each day you could move the wheel to find out what day it is today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Afternoon activities

Peter and the Wolf is a wonderful piece of music composed in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev. It’s a “symphonic fairy tale for children” During the music the narrator tells of Peter’s adventurers as the orchestra illustrates it with the music they play. Each character in the story has a ‘theme tune’ played by a specific instrument in the orchestra. The dramatic music really tells the story.

Here are two different versions of the story to watch. One if a modern version narrated by Alexander Armstrong accompanied by the London  Mozart Players. This shows the actual instruments playing the themes before the story starts.

Modern version - Alexander Armstrong

Which version did you like best and why?

Can you match the character to the correct instrument?
