Thursday 14th January

Happy Thursday, I can’t believe we are already nearly at the end of the week. Here are your activities for today.

Phonics

Today’s Set 2 sound is “or - Shut the door ”.   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

Numberblocks Episode Series 3 - episode 14  “Octoblock to the rescue”

Octoblock is one of the most popular Numberblocks at school. The children love how he has super powers and always comes to the rescue.

This episode is all about learning our number bonds to 8. These are pairs of numbers that total 8.
Working practically can you find all the ways to make 8 by adding two numbers together eg 4 + 4 = 8.

If you would like to follow this up and record your work you can complete this activity.

English/Talk4Writing

How is it going learning your story? Can you remember the key phrases?

Today I would like to start to add some actions into your story.  Remember to start by putting your hands together to open your book as you say “once upon a time”
Can you remember the action we used for “early one morning”
What action are going to choose to represent each pig?
How will you show me the action for the Wolf?
What about when you Huff and Puff?

Add as many actions as you feel comfortable with and remember to use the story map to help you remember the sequence of the story.

Afternoon tasks.

As part of the Read, write inc reading scheme we have to learn sets of Word time words. There are seven sets of words starting with first six words in set 1.1. We have a set process learning the words.

1. The adult hides the card and reads each sound before blending the sounds together. This is called Oral blending. The children listen and blend the sounds together to make words. They can jump in with the whole word before the adult says the word.

2.  Next we ask the children to Fred talk the words. The child points to the dot under each letter and says the sounds. We use Fred Talk.

3. Once the children more become confident we remove the dots and the children Fred talk again until they get faster and faster.

4. Next we don’t sound out, we say the sounds in our head, this is called Fred in your head. Here the child reads the sounds quickly in their head and then says the words. We go over and over the words until we can read them instantly.

Over the next few weeks I would like you to practise your set 1.1 to 1.7 words. Start with 1.1 and if your child can read them confidently without sounding out then move into 1.2.
