Monday 11th January

Hello, I hope you have had a lovely weekend and are ready to start a new week of learning. I’ve had a very exciting weekend as my lovely puppies Toffee and Fudge we allowed to go for their first walk. They loved it but covered us in mud! Here they are having a rest watching a bit of TV. They love Meerkats!

Phonics

Today’s Set 2 sound is “oo - poo at the zoo”.   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

Reading

This week we are going to start our reading. At school we have three reading groups. There is one book for Mrs Bramley’s phonics group, one for my large phonics group and another for my smaller group. I am happy for both of my groups to read both books if you would like to do extra reading. If your child is unsure which phonics group they are in please email me to ask.

Each book has a video explaining how we read that style of book and shows you the green and red words we would learn at school before we start to read the book.  We have also added a screen shot of the pages on the Blog for you to read at your own speed.

Mrs Bramley’s phonics group - Jam Red Ditty Book 4.

Here is the video to introduce the book and show you how to read the speed sounds and speedy green words. Click here

We would like you to watch this video every day. We will add new reading content on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Please read the book again on the days in between.

Now it’s time to read our first Ditty - Jam.   Here is a link to the first Ditty.

Remember if you need to sound out your words using  ‘Fred talk’ that’s fine, but keep reading it lots of times until you can read it using ‘Fred in your head!’

Now ask your grown up to read the questions for today’s book Ditty 1.

Mrs Smith’s big phonics group - Ditty 1: a cat.

Today we are going to read our first Ditty. Here is a video showing you how to read today’s Ditty.

First of all we need to learn our green words before we read the ditty. Here is a video showing you how to read the green words and how to move through the ditty. Here is a video of how to learn them. Remember to use your pointing stick to point to each letter. Use Fred talk. Read it lots of times over the next two days until you can read it using Fred in your head.

Mrs Smith’s small phonics group - Sound Blending book 1.

Here is a video showing you how to read Sound blending books. The children in this group read this book before Christmas in school so should be able to demonstrate how to read it with a partner. This is the book for the whole week. I will also add some other words to read on Wednesday and Friday.  Please feel free to access the Ditty above if your child would like to read more. Only do this if you feel your child did well with their sound blending book and is ready to have a go.

Could you record yourself reading your book and add it to Tapestry.
We would love to listen to you!

English - Talk4Writing

Today we are starting our new Talk4Writing Unit. So far this year we have looked at The Little Red Hen, Rama and Sita, and The Greatest Journey.  Our story for this half term is The Three Little Pigs but please don’t share this with your child until tomorrow. First of all today we need to create interest and introduce the story through a hook.

Maths

This week our focus this consolidating our work from last term on the Numbers 0-10. We will be looking at the composition of numbers, partitioning and combining numbers, subtraction and looking at pairs of numbers to make a total.

Numberblocks Episode Series 3 - episode 10  “Hiccups” Here’s a link to watch the episode. It can also be found on BBC iPlayer.

In today’s episode every time number 9 hiccuped he split into two numbers. Eg 8 + 1,  7 + 2

Can you find all the different ways Numberblock 9 can be partitioned into two numbers. You could draw the characters and write the sum, or just write the sums.

Story/Pshce time

Here is a lovely eBook with activities to share with your child. It will help to answer any of their questions or worries about Coronavirus.

I hope you enjoy today’s learning activities. Don’t forget to add them to Tapestry for us to see.
