Friday 15th January

It’s Friday!  What a busy week we have had. We have learnt so many new things!
Here is the final set of activities for this week.

Phonics

Today’s Set 2 sound is “air - That’s not fair ”.   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

Reading

Mrs Bramley's phonics group - Red Ditty Book 4 - Ditty 3 In the Net

Here is the link to watch today’s video - In the net

Mrs Smith's big phonics group - Ditty 3: sit

Mrs Smith’s small phonics group

Can you Fred talk today words? How fast can you read them? Can you use Fred in your head?

English/Talk4Writing -The Three Little Pigs

Today is our final day for internalising the story.  Use the story map and tell the story to an adult. Try to use the exact language I used in the text, using actions to help remind you of the sequence of the story.
Make sure you start with ‘Once upon and time’ and finish with ‘lived happily ever after’
Make sure you are using the same repeated refrains throughout the story.  Listen to the story and go over it lots of times so that you are ready to make our own story map next week and start our writing activities.
When you feel confident can you add your re-telling to Tapestry.

Maths

Numberblocks Episode Series 3 - episode 15 Ten Again. Click the link to take you to BBC iPlayer Numberblocks page.

This episode is about learning the number bonds to 10. What I would like you to do is draw around both hands. Next cut them out and number the fingers from 1 to 10.  Now you are going to use these fingers to work out your number bonds.  First of all fold one finger over. How many fingers are left standing up? Can you record this 1 + 9 = 10. Then fold the next finger down.  How many fingers are left standing up? Can you record this 2 + 8 = 10.
Continue until all of the fingers have been folded down. How many ways to make 10 did you find?

Here is a video demonstrating this that I found on-line. You don’t need to do the subtraction part.

Afternoon tasks

Handwriting focus - how to hold a pencil correctly and sit at a table ready to write.

Here is how to help
  1.  Lay the pencil down on the table with the point facing towards you.

  2. Fly your Polly parrot fingers down to the pencil and grip it with your thumb and first finger (do not twist your hand)

  3.  While gripping the pencil with your thumb and first finger pull the pencil towards you until it touches your hand between the finger and thumb - we call this "putting your pencil to bed"

  4. Slide your middle finger under the pencil to support it.

Tuck your finger two fingers under until they touch the palm of your hand.

How to sit correctly at a table when writing. Learning our school terminology.

We use -
  • TNT - Tummy near table
  • BBC - bottom, back, chair
  • 6 legs on the floor - this is your four chair legs, and your two flat feet on the floor

When we write at school we used line guide paper.  All the lines have different names.
They are called:
  • Top broken line
  • Top solid line
  • Bottom solid line
  • Bottom broken line

These letters are small letters and they fit exactly between the two solid lines.

These letters are tall letters and they start from the top broken line and sit on the bottom solid line.

These letters are hanging down letters. They start at the top solid line, or sit between the two solid lines and go down to the bottom broken line.

This letter is the tallest letter. It starts at the top broken line and goes all the way down to the bottom broken line.

There is one letter which the odd one out. A t is a teenager t. It starts half way between the top broken line and the top solid line. It sits on the bottom solid line.

Using your homework book. Choose a set of letters and see if you can write them sitting on the lines correctly.  Are you holding you pencil with “Polly parrot fingers”
Make sure your feet are flat on the floor.  Is you bottom at the back of your chair and your tummy to the table?

Each letter has a Read, write inc rhyme we say as we form the letter.
