Afternoon task - music
Peter and the Wolf is a wonderful piece of music composed in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev. It’s a “symphonic fairy tale for children” During the music the narrator tells of Peter’s adventurers as the orchestra illustrates it with the music they play. Each character in the story has a ‘theme tune’ played by a specific instrument in the orchestra. The dramatic music really tells the story.
Here are two different versions of the story to watch. One if a modern version narrated by Alexander Armstrong accompanied by the London Mozart Players. This shows the actual instruments playing the themes before the story starts.
Modern version - Alexander Armstrong
Which version did you like best and why?
Can you match the character to the correct instrument?
