Friday 8th January

Good morning ☺️ Here are the activities for the final day of home learning this week. Well done for making a brilliant start. We have seen some lovely work and some very big smiles!

Phonics

Today’s Set 2 sound is “ow as in snow”.   It will be uploaded at 9.30 and you have 24 hours to watch it before it has been removed.

When the lesson has finished I would like you to take a break before joining the page again. Now I would like you to watch the Set 2 spelling video to match today’s sound. You will need your pink homework book and a pencil.  You will need your grown up to keep pausing the video to give you time to write and check your words, as Rosie might be working faster or slower than you.

Maths

Numberblocks Episode Series 3 - episode 11 “What’s the Difference?”  Here’s the link to watch the show.

Today we are comparing numbers to 10, finding the difference. Today we are learning to count the difference between two numbers.
Choose two numbers and you can either draw the Numberblocks side by side, or arrange to columns of objects. Can you count how many blocks difference there are between the two numbers?

Eg make/draw 4 and 7.  Place them side by side.   Then count how many more 7 has.
Now tell your grown-up the number sentence “7 is 3 more than 4”
Try this for different numbers.

Science

It’s been so cold this week.  Here’s a lovely Winter experiment we did at school that you could do at home.

Ice Sculptures

Go on a walk outside and make a collection of small leaves, twigs, pine cones, small flowers.
Arrange the items in the bottom of a plastic pot or tray.
Add a looped piece of string or wool that dangles into your pot.
Next fill the pot with water.
Place it outside overnight.

The next day go outside and see it it’s changed!

Here are the sculptures we made at school. We hung 4 up inside the classroom and hung the rest outside on the fence for the day.

We hung these inside the classroom
We hung these outside.
We checked for changes throughout the day. This is what we saw!

By the end of the day this is what was left inside and out

Can you spot any changes in the ice sculptures?
Talk to your grown up about the changes you can see.
Why do you think this has happened?

We hope you enjoy making your own ice sculptures, we’d love to see them.

P.E.

This half term in PE we would be looking at Dance.  Have a look at this Big Blue Whale dance it’s great fun!

This YouTube channel has lots of super dances on it if you would like to do some more.
