Thursday 17th March 2022

Good morning

We hope you enjoyed yesterdays activities. We have loved learning about 3D shapes in school and are really starting to be able to name lots of them and talk about their properties.

Phonics

Today I would like you to go on a sound hunt. Can you find one object for each of the special friends you have covered (use your sound books to help you)

Next I would like you to draw each object and write the word to match. I would like you to sound out each word, not your grown-up and write it how you would spell it. Remember to use your Fred fingers to count to sounds as you Fred talk the word.

Maths

Today we are moving into the first of two days on pattern. We first looked at pattern in Autumn one. Next we are going to look at more complex repeating patterns.

Have a look at the PowerPoint that explains today’s learning.

At school we will be creating repeating patterns using shapes, counters, threading beads and other objects.
You could work on this practically at home using everyday object. Alternatively here is an optional worksheet you could complete.

Talk4Writing

Today we are going to use the plan you made yesterday to create your innovated Gingerbread story.

Start by asking your grown up to draw a reversed s and draw a story map for your story. Next tell your story using your map.

You can either ask your grown-up to write the words you are saying or you could video yourself telling the story. Please add it to Tapestry so we can share it with your friends.

Afternoon tasks

Today we are continuing our topic on Carlton. Use the photographs of Carlton to talk about key buildings or land marks in Carlton. Can your child recognise and name the places they see?

Here is the sound card, word cards and alien words to read.

Maths

Today in maths we are continuing to look at 3D shapes. Have a look at the PowerPoint which explains todays learning.

Today we are investigating the faces of 3D shapes by printing them into play dough or paint.
Can you print the faces of 3D objects into play dough? What do you notice?
Which shape has 6 square faces?
Can you find a shape that has 3 rectangle faces and 2 triangle faces?

Talk4Writing

Today I would like you to start to make a plan to innovate the Gingerbread man story.

With your grown-up I would like you to change the following parts of the story and make a list of your changes:

The main character - do you want to change the type of biscuit, it’s shape, is it still a man?

The animals that chase it.

The baddy? Who is going to eat your main character?

Afternoon tasks

Today is Library day. Choose your favourite book and share it with your grown-up.

Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th March 2022

Maths

This week we are looking at 3D shape and pattern.

First of all I would like you to watch the Numberblocks episode Flatland series 3 on BBC iPlayer to recap the work we did on 2D shape earlier in the year.

Next I would like you to watch the Lesson one PowerPoint we shared in class on Monday. This introduces the names of the 3D shapes we are learning about and teaches us some of their properties.

Following the class input we worked practically using 3D shapes and wooden blocks to investigate which shapes we could use to build a tower. We talked about the shape names, the faces on each shape and how the surfaces could be curved or flat.

On Tuesday we are investigating 3D shapes in the environment. Please start by looking at this PowerPoint presentation.

Following the presentation we are going on a 3D shape hunt. We are going to look in our classroom and outdoor environment to find real objects that are the same as the 3D shapes we are learning about.

Can you find any 3D shapes in your house and garden. Can you take some photographs and add them to your Tapestry account.

Talk4Writing

Today we are going to start to innovate our Talk4Writing text the Gingerbread man.  We have found and shared this very exciting book The Ninjabread man to get some ideas.  Here is an exciting reading of this story for you to enjoy!

Today we enjoyed the story, learnt the new chant and then began to draw some of the characters from the story.

On Tuesday we will be completing our character drawings and beginning to write speech bubbles for our characters. Some of us will be acting out the story using our stick puppets that match the story.

Afternoon tasks

On Monday afternoon we spent the afternoon in our outdoor area, while Mrs Bramley worked with small groups inside to make salt dough Ninjabread men. Don’t worry we made one for everyone who was poorly so they will here ready for you to paint when you get back to school.

On Tuesday afternoon we will be returning to our Powder paint work mixing red and blue paint to make shades of purple. Then we will be practising our new Spring/Easter song we started last week in music.

Here is the sound card, word cards and alien words to read.

Maths

For the next two days we are going to look at making ten. The ELG for Reception maths is that children know their number bonds to 10 from memory, without using rhymes and songs to help them. This is the start of that learning process.

Talk4Writing

At school we are continuing our speech bubble work from yesterday.

Would you like to make your very own story basket/box for the Gingerbread man story?
You could use figures/people you have at home or draw your own characters and stick them into cardboard to make puppets.

Remember you will need:

The Gingerbread man
The old women
Cow
Horse
Goat
Sleepy dog
Fox

Afternoon task

This afternoon we are going to collect some Daffodils from Collaboration corner and learn how to draw them using this guided draw.

Wednesday 9th March 2022

Good morning, I hope you are all OK and not feeling too poorly today. Here is todays learning.

Maths

Today we are continuing our work on comparing numbers to 10 using fewer, more, and greater than.

If you have some dominoes it would be great to play this game practically with your grown-up.

Phonics

In todays lesson we are continuing to recap our set two special friends. Please practise reading the words in your yellow books.

Talk4Writing

Today I would like you draw a picture of the Gingerbread man and draw a big speech bubble coming from his mouth. I would like you to independently write “Run, run as fat as you can. You can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread man”

Remember to use your “Fred fingers” when you sound out and use the phonics sounds you have covered.

We haven’t covered the sound G so the children will write a j. This is just what we want!

Afternoon tasks

This afternoon is our afternoon to visit the school Library. Why not enjoy a lovely story with your Grown-up.

After library we will be spending some time playing in our outdoor area. Hopefully we will have some sunshine to enjoy again.
